The Aim of KEu3a

“To encourage those older people no longer in full-time employment to engage in educational and cultural activities.

To find and help such people use their skills to teach and learn.”

The KEu3a has been successfully running a singing group for many years. The choir caters for those members who have little, or no experience of singing with others and the joy of doing so. During their time with the group, we encourage members:

• To gain confidence in themselves as singers

• Have a greater understanding of singing as a member of the group

• To learn the rudiments of reading music through experience

• As a member of the Choir to gain experience performing together on stage, and taking part in in-house concerts to the KEu3a Membership

• To enjoy what they sing whether it is a simple song, or music of a more challenging nature as part of their learning curve.

However, the overall Aim is to ensure that members actually enjoy singing and look forward to rehearsals and events!

There is great variety in our repertoire including folksongs and sea shanties, songs of a contemporary nature, and a light choral piece every year. It is a very social group as well, with everyone getting on well with one another. Although we have a few experienced singers the majority of our members have never sung with a group before. There is NO audition, no need to be able to read music, just turn up and listen [and take part, if you like] and try us for two or three weeks, and if you like what you see and hear, then we can enroll you into the group. If you don’t then at least you’ve checked us out!

We meet every Friday, except the fourth Friday of the month when there is the u3a Monthly Meeting. We start promptly at 10am, although we do encourage members to come a little earlier to deal with any administrative matters, and we finish promptly at 12 midday. Rehearsals take place at West Charleton Village Hall.
