The Church Visits group has now been to over 100 churches in the area. There yet remain a few to explore! We will also be re-visiting some visited in the past – subsequent visits often let us discover new aspects and features which we may have overlooked.
We enjoy visiting churches for many reasons. Some are fascinated by the architecture, some by the treasures to be found within. Many enjoy the tranquility and sense of the sacred. Churches occupied a central place in the life of the community and the evidence of this is to be found both within their walls and in their graveyards. It is intriguing to try and unpick their history and relate it to the wider world.
