If you are thinking of forming a new group, take a look at the points below, which may help you plan the work.
- It only takes two people to form a group and meetings can be held anywhere, at any time you choose, on any subject or interest you wish.
- Groups meet on a regular basis during the day as shown on the groups page.
- Most groups meet either monthly or fortnightly rather than weekly, so it should be possible to join several groups should you wish.
- Some groups meet in members’ houses; others, such as Walking Groups, don't have a regular meeting place.
- We car-share for any members who are without transport, particularly for field trips, and the members of each group share any expenses eg hall hire or transport.
- You don’t need to have any expertise or special knowledge -although it’s great if you do & want to share it. u3a is all about self-help & learning together
- All a group needs is for someone to agree to be the point of contact
- Do look at the wealth of opportunities offered by online learning
- The group can, initially, be set up to run for a short period – e.g.the online ‘Future Learning’ courses (which are free) last around 6 weeks – it doesn’t have to be a long-term commitment.
- Be aware of the Risk Assessment Guidance so you can plan activities properly.
- Here is some additional guidance for Group Leaders.
- If any form of incident occurs within a group, please report it using the Incident Report Form.
